Navy Coin Shield

Those that know me know I served in the Royal New Zealand Navy back in the mid 1980’s to the early/mid 1990’s. Over a period of time I have been collecting the ships coins.

I have made the shield from and old bed head board that was made from some “Rimu”. The first thing I did was remove the two legs, and then to the table saw and cut a piece so it can fit the thickness planner. Then taking it to the planer to plan the varnish off it…

Planning the old head board down.

From here I then did my mostest favorite thing in woodworking… I really , really  love doing it… Sanding… sigh!

Sanding sanding sanding…

Now the part I hoped would work first go and that was taking it to the Laser Engraver
