Well I have seen these done and decided to give it a go… This was our first go at doing a vinyl record wall art display on the laser and we have appeared to have got the laser settings dialed in first go. We were not expecting that.
We have lots of different pre-designed templates that we can use and sell and we will also start designing more. Also with a small fee we can design a personalised one, as a gift. Maybe for a wedding or birthday, anniversary etc or even if it is to go on your business wall. This all depends on how detailed of a design you are requiring and how much work is involved to get it to work.
These can be used as just wall art as is, or we can put a clock mechanism on it and the make it into a working clock.
As wall art as is they are probably retailing around $75 – $80 each with a the clock mechanism added probably in the region of $110.00 – $120. This particular one was made for a friends Birthday. I was struggling to come up with a birthday gift idea for him… I knew he had a couple of other vinyl records wall art on display I also know he is a Star Wars fan so done deal… He was over the moon… wait that’s no moon.
It’s an annual community challenge. Anyone with a YouTube channel can create a video of themselves making a Rock and Roll album cover using any material. Participants simultaneously post their video to their own YouTube channels and give them away. Every participant promotes other participants in the weeks leading up to the publish date. A private Facebook group is available to the participants and is used to coordinate this effort.
Here are playlists that contain each Makers Rock build video from previous years: 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 & 2022
So this year is an open year and I decided to join in this year and do Pink Floyd -Dark side of the Moon, but with a slight twist as it is their 50th Year Anniversary of Dark Side of the Moon. Pink Floyd released a 50th Logo Pyramid and prism and while it is not the actual album cover it is the official logo used by Pink Floyd for the re-release of “Dark Side of the Moon”
Stay tuned as the video is coming in April.

Since Laser alley or my cubby corner is on a raised bed floating floor, it means that I can knock my noggin on the the house floor joists etc… so I thought make a sign to remind me to duck.
The sign is made on 10mm ply with the setting on the laser at 50% power and 3000mm/sec for the lettering and fill and then cutting it out at 100% power and 300 mm/sec with 2 passes. I forgot to turn on air assist until halfway through the first cut… Anyway a quick sand and all is good.
I do think if I was to do this again with the same module (the 20 watt) I would probably increase the power and possibly slow it down a bit more on the fill. However this actually took 2 1/2 hours to etch/engrave as it was..
So today I tried my hand at laser engraving on ceramic tiles bought at Bunnings Warehouse, and I wasn’t expecting much with the diode laser, however it actually turned our quite well. It was a slow process though as it took a couple of hours to complete with the 20 watt module at 100% power and speed 500 (mm/sec) to ensure it actually etched it. However the end result looks as we say PDG… Pretty Darn Good.
Some times it is the small and simple things that clients need and want. Our neighbor down the road asked if we could make a simple step box so she could reach the cloths line.
The small step box is made from left overs (A nice way of saying scrap wood) It is very sturdy and solid and it should also last as it is made from treated wood left over from our renovations. The base is 6″ x 2″ with 10mm treated ply top…We then added some non slip tape (that get put on outdoor stairs) to help with grip.
Now to be completely honest here, the job took longer to find the bits of scrap wood than it did to actually make it. 😆 But the our clients are happy.
