Festool

Wacky Wood Works is going to dark side.

First of all, I bought all my tools with my own hard earned money. (Except where stated ie; one of my laser levels and one Systainer)

So why have bought Festool, and why am I planning of the possibility on buy other Fetool tools, like the Domino and at least one of their sanders.  While I have the Accu-Cut track system from Kreg it is not really a proper track saw.

There are more Con’s than Pro’s to it compared to a dedicated Track Saw;

  • Since you have to set up your circular saw to the face plate that rides the track.
  • There is a bit of movement on the track.
  • When you re put your saw on the sled there is a chance you don’t completely align it properly to your preset.
  • The sled itself takes away a few MM’s from your cut depth.
  • Also while it will work with most circular saws, but not all. And to be fair the clamping system on the sled it is a little bit flimsy.
  • Dust collection is only as good as your circular saw… which to be fair most circular saws are not the best.

However it is most definitely usable and workable and if you only need it for breaking down stock it is probably all you need. However if you need more accurate cuts or better dust collection then going to a dedicated track saw system is probably the better option. (whether Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Festool or what ever etc…)

Festool CTM 26 E M Class Dust Extractor

I choose Festool as I got the Tracksaw on a bit of a special and free shipping. It was originally a toss up between Milwaukee & Festool and the special as well as the free shipping which did it for me. Yes over all it is going to be more expensive, but as I was always going to buy a Festool Extractor it also made sense to buy the track saw as well and eventually a sand and Domino as they just work together.

Just after purchased and delivered. I am saying to myself. I can’t believe I bought Festool.

In my small shop I have been struggling with dust collection and buying into Festool system the dust extractor just works with their tools ie; track saw, sanders, domino, dropsaw etc.

There are a few other niceties that Festool tools have quality and just some of the small things that they do or have that their competitors don’t have. When you buy into a system and things just start working together it just makes life so much easier.
