AEG Drill and Impact driver set review.

I believe I have now had this combo set for over 6 years, I am not 100% sure but I think I bought them in 2014. The set came with a Drill, Impact Driver and a small site radio as well as x2 2Ah batteries and charger.

Now before I start and go any further, I have bought ALL my tools with my own money I have not been sponsored in any form so I can give my honest option. (but I am open to having a sponsor. 😉 )

I bought the new set back in 2014 when my old Makita drill batteries died, it was cheaper to buy a new set than get replacement batteries as sad as that is. However you can probably now get them a dime a dozen.  So down to Bunnings and have a look at what they had… they obviously all the major brands that New Zealand had at the time, DeWalt, Makati, Bosch, Ryobi, Hitachi, as well as AEG, they also have their own brand Ozito which is a lot cheaper…The AEG combo set was on special also the 3 year warrantee and 3 year extended warrantee.  So right off the bat we are off to a good start. Price and warrantee.

Since buying them they have been used and abused dropped from the roof, they have been used in all my projects since buying them, including the craft-room build, and house renovations. I have drilled small holes, large holes… wet and dry wood, hard and soft wood, using general bits, to spade bits and forsners bits, hole saws and even with the 2 Ah batteries they have never let me down and I have had enough power and run time to get the job done. (now with AEG‘s 9 Ah Fusion battery it is insane). AEG no longer sell the exact combo set of drill and impact driver now but have similar sets with (I think) 4 Ah batteries. Click here.

I then bought one of the AEG brad finishing nail guns which started me off down the road of being locked into the AEG brand of 18 volt tools. It is a love hate relationship, I love my AEG tools and had absolutely no problems they any of them, and love that it is cheaper to just buy the skin instead of buying skin, battery, and charger for each tool.. Love that I don’t need a different battery charger for each tool like back in the before times. But I hate that it eventually starts to limit your options, and you start to look like brand whore.

Would recommend AEG to DIY users… yes, would I recommend AEG to tradies I would say here depends. Depends on a variety of things, are they already on another battery system, does the AEG range offer all the required tools you need to do your job. But I do believe the actual tools would meet a tradie’s requirement to do the job.

The tool come with a standard 3 year warrantee and once you register your tool with AEG you get the extended warrantee of 3 years a total of a 6 year  warrantee for a tool which is insane. Just giving that must mean AEG are pretty confident in the product. And this warrantee is not a home use or DIY warrantee it is a full trade warrantee. The batteries get a standard one year warrantee… (my x2 2 Ah batteries are 6 years old and are still going strong) I do now have more batteries… but regularly still use the original batteries.

Overall in general I would recommend the AEG Drill and Impact driver set.

On a side note I said the set came with a small site radio, and AEG no longer make or sell the said radio in New Zealand (they may still sell it in other countries) They do have other site radios available more modern with blue-tooth and USB etc. I use this quiet often when not filming my youtube video’s
